Coach Matty’s superpower is setting people on a course to play and love pickleball. Whether you are stepping on the court for the first time, an intermediate or an advanced pickler looking to beat their significant other or neighbor, Coach Matty is the coach you have been looking for. With Coach Matty, you will improve your skills while wearing an ear-to-ear grin and become the puppet master, not the puppet.
Coach Matty brings over 14 years of rich experience to the court, offering a specialized program for beginners, intermediates and advanced levels. His philosophy is simple yet impactful: instill a love for the game quickly and effectively. As an esteemed IPTPA Level 2 and PPR Teaching Pro, Matty has a remarkable track record of teaching over 40,000 players across 44 states, 4 countries, 2 Sandals Resorts and aboard 11 cruises, not to mention conducting more than 905 clinics. Additionally, he was the Teaching Pro at the Lake George Club in New York and later at the Grand Oaks pickleball courts outside The Villages for 2.5 years.

Beginner to Proficient Course
Led by Coach Matty and Coach MeiShen, this four-week course is designed to take you from a tentative beginner to a confident, smooth, and highly proficient recreational player.
With one hour of targeted training and drilling per week, you
will master foundational mechanics, understand court
positioning, and develop the consistency needed to participate
safely and confidently in recreational play.

Master the Shots that will Transform Your Game.
Each Shot of the Day clinic focuses on the mechanics, purpose, and strategy behind essential pickleball shots.
The Serve
1. The Topspin Serve: is a heavy, aggressive option used to create a fast, diving ball that jumps forward off the court bounce.
2. The Side-Spin Serve: is a trickier, highly modern serve that utilizes heavy horizontal axis spin (side-spin) to make the ball curve mid-air and bounce sideways.
3. The Lob Serve: The lob serve is a soft, high-arcing finesse serve that relies on gravity, extreme height, and patience rather than pace or spin.
The Dink
It is the defining shot of patient, strategic pickleball gameplay.
Tactical Goal: Patience and unattackable placement. Be the puppet master, not the puppet.
The 3rd Shot Drop & Return of Serve
The 3rd Shot Drop: The quintessential equalizer in pickleball. It is the bridge that allows the serving team to safely transition from the baseline to the non-volley zone (NVZ) line, neutralizing the receiving team’s immediate positional advantage.
The Return of Serve: Statistically, the return of serve is one of the most critical shots for the receiving team. Because the serving team must let the return bounce before hitting it (the two-bounce rule), a good return gives the receiver a massive structural advantage.
Tactical Goal: Buy time to get to the kitchen.
The Volley
1. The Reset Volley The Soft Block
The reset volley is a defensive shot executed out of the air, typically from the transition zone (mid-court) or right at the kitchen line. It is used to take all the pace off a hard, aggressive shot from your opponent and drop it softly into their kitchen.
The Tactical Goal: Neutralize the point. When an opponent drives a hard ball at your chest or feet, a reset volley completely kills their momentum, forces them to hit upward on their next shot, and allows you to establish or maintain your position at the kitchen line.
2. The Punch Volley The Offensive Strike
The punch volley is an aggressive, offensive shot hit out of the air when you are firmly established at the kitchen line. It is used to attack a ball that has been left slightly too high or to counter an opponent’s speed-up.
The Tactical Goal: Take away reaction time. You use a punch volley to target an opponent’s feet, their dominant hip (the “chicken wing” spot), or open gaps on the court, forcing a weak defensive pop-up or ending the rally entirely.
